The artist has been painting for the last 15 years. Her paintings have become part of private collections in Muscat, Dubai, India, Hong Kong, New York and California. She graduated from The School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi, and studied Fine and Applied Arts under eminent artists: Shri O. P. Sharma and Shri Biren De. In the mid seventies while studying Architectural Design and Indian Architectural History, a chapter on Vastu Shastra made a life long impact in her mind. "All lines drawn for any Architectural building can have either positive or negative impact on the inhabitants." In India, the science of Vastu Shastra is a living tradition. It permeates into geometry, drafting, stone sculptures, wood carving, and painting. In the consciousness of Indian people, a home or a place of work or worship has prime importance. Sacred architectural forms (as presented in the Vastu Shastra) have the ability to uplift the human consciousness from the mundane reality to the super-natural, as also in ancient Indian art. This basic ancient Architectural discipline is what she has being putting on canvas for over a decade. She employs a water color technique of short, choppy strokes. Her colors flow spontaneously, with the acrylic paint being mixed directly on the canvas. Alongside her painting, she teaches Art and Graphics for college students at her alma mater, the School of Planning and Architecture. She further teaches a course in Architectural Design at the University. Vandana plays the sitar, having studied under Shri Rafat Khan and the late Shri Arvind Parikh, direct disciples of the late Ustad Vilayat Hussain Khan, and has performed in Bombay and Pune.
